I interviewed with the Animal Programs department for the Conservation Education Presenter, Coordinator, and Instructor positions. This was by far the most nerve wrecking phone interview I have done. It was a panel interview for all 3 positions so I was on the phone with 5 different people. Fortunately, I was prepared for their questions ahead of time thanks to a blog I had read (click here) which gave all the possible questions. The one not listed that I had to prepare was "If you had to choose one conservation message that is very close to your heart, what would it be and how would you spread it?" Overall though, I felt good about it because I was so prepared. Hopefully the blog will help anyone out applying in the future because it definitely helped me. I'm not sure I would have gotten through it without it!

I also had an interview (if that's what you want to call it) with the person who runs the Disney Youth Events program. The reason why I'm hesitant to call it an interview is because it felt more like a discussion about the internship and was very informal. He gave me a detailed description of the internship what I'd be doing, what the daily schedule would be like, how many hours I'd be working. It was very informative and he asked me the basic interview questions about my background in music, have I ever planned an event (even if it was just a trip), and who my favorite character was ( I said Steamboat Willie which led into him telling me about Disney's new old style cartoons they're coming out with haha.) It lasted about 45 minutes and felt like more of a really relaxed conversation.

Finally I made and submitted my video audition for the Youth Education Series Facilitator internship. I did it with my cousins who are in 4th grade. I'm a little worried about it because I did some editing and its kind of noticeable but I had to cut out the long pauses or extra footage since I had about 12 minutes of video and had to fit it into 5 minutes. Hopefully that won't affect their decision though because this is definitely my top choice for a PI. Here's my video teaching a musical scale:

Finally, this happened last night.

I'm not too upset because I'm still In Progress for every single one of the PIs I applied for and those are what I'm really aiming for this time around. Also with a teaching degree, I know I'll end up back in Florida no matter what happens with Disney! :)

Happy waiting!Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407552280265707944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-23386713853702254032013-09-06T23:35:00.000-04:002013-09-06T23:35:01.479-04:00Disney Round 2 (hopefully)Someone just posted a link to this blog in the Spring 2014 College Program Facebook group as helpful interview info! :) I forgot all about it but now that I see it again I decided maybe I'll blog some more, especially now that I plan on going back to Florida/Disney.

I'm just going to give a brief overview of what I've been doing and maybe go into more details in other posts. I completed my Disney CP in January 2012 and had the best 7 months of my life. When I tell you it was hard leaving that place, I mean it was one of the hardest things I've had to do so far. I made so many amazing friends on my college program (all or most who have since returned to the sunshine state) and was extremely happy there. I did apply to extend and was accepted but ultimately decided not to take it and come back to school in CT.

I've been working on my certification and Master's degree in Elementary Education for the past year and a half (almost 2 years now! crazy) and I will finally be finished this December. So you know what that means? I'll be on my way back to the happiest place on earth come January of 2014!!

So far I have applied for 5 PI's (professional internships), all in the field of education. The roles I applied for are:

Alumni Only-Youth Education Series Facilitator (YES program)
Conservation Education Presenter
Conservation Education Coordinator
Conservation Education Instructor
Disney Youth Events Internship

I would honestly love any of these roles because they're all something I'm interested in, mostly teaching. However, the Youth Events Internship is actually working with the Music Festivals that the schools participate in which would also be a good fit for me since Music was my major in undergrad. I had my phone interview yesterday and I felt like it went really really well so now I'm just waiting, working on an audition video for the YES program, and crossing my fingers! I also applied for another CP yesterday as a backup in case I don't get a PI, passed my WBI (web based interview), and am having my phone interview this coming Tuesday at 5:45pm.

So basically I have a lot of exciting Disney related things happening and I can hopefully keep this blog running a little better than 2 years ago haha. My next posts will probably be about more magical memories from my first CP and then more detailed information about my PI interview and application process so far. So stay tuned!!Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407552280265707944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-63958073288101239842011-08-06T10:32:00.004-04:002011-08-06T13:14:46.213-04:00Magical MemoriesThis blog is going to be about my magical memories while being on the CP so far :)

1) The other day I was working in Uptown Jewelers and I met a little girl and gave her a sticker. Her mom was more excited than she was and told her "Tell Miss Lisa what you're celebrating today!!" to which she replied "Mickey Mouse" lol

Mom: "Nooo tell her about how it's your birthday!"

Me: *gasp* "Is it your birthday today?!?"

Girl: "Yes, do you want to come to my birthday??"

Mom: "Awww"

Me: "You're having a birthday party? that's so cool!! I'll be right back, I'm going to see if I have something special for you!"

I came back with a birthday button and asked her her name (Nicole) and gave it to her. It felt really special and I felt like I made their day really special :)

2) One day I was in Photopass ringing people up and I saw a mother holding her little boy. I went over and gave him a Mickey sticker and his mom told him to "say thank you!" He didn't do that but instead he blew me the most adorable kiss! :)

3) While working outside at one of the train carts, I was waving with the Mickey glove and a little girl ran over to me and hugged me and gave me a "high four"

4) While in the Confectionery, the Dapper Dans were singing to the guests and they saw a little girl with a birthday button. They sang a birthday song for her and everyone was looking. At the very end of the song I walked over and gave her a Mickey shaped rice krispie as a birthday present :D
Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407552280265707944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-25185117801004205232011-07-20T11:34:00.002-04:002011-07-20T11:59:38.815-04:00Oh my gosh.....I really stink at these blog posts!! :/ I can't believe it has been over a month since I last posted. I'm going to try to recap everything for you all and I promise I will try and get better about posting!

Work has been really great, I still love my location just as much as I did when I first started :) The days are long and my feet hurt a lot at the beginning but I promise you get used to it! My feet definitely don't hurt as much now haha. I love my managers and I feel so lucky to be on Main Street where I can see the parades and fireworks happen. Last week I was deployed to Adventureland (working at Pirates and Island Supply) and while it was cool to try something new it definitely wasn't Main Street and by the end of the week I was more than ready to go back! So besides being deployed work is pretty much the same everyday. Occasionally something memorable will happen like when I gave a baby a sticker and he blew me a kiss as his way of saying thank you or when I have a full 5 minute conversation with a little girl about Pez dispensers (lol) or the scariest one where a kid decided to eat a sticker and started choking on it and no one knew what to do (he was ok, I guess he swallowed it but the family was not happy that no one tried to help.)

Anyways, yesterday was pretty cool at work because I had a special meeting :) A bunch of us CP's had a meeting with 2 of the managers. Steve is like a big kid and when we walked in he was playing the 25th anniversary park music on his laptop lol. I thought the meeting was going to be boring but it turned out being really cool. There were 3 ICPs (International College Program) in my meeting, one was from China and 2 were from France. It was really cool hearing how America was so different from their own countries and hearing about why they decided to come to Florida to do the college program. One of the really cool things about this program is that you'll meet people from everywhere :) During the meeting we also talked about how to make the CP better in the future, what advice we would give people, and played Disney Trivia 20 questions and won prizes!! :D We also got to sample some treats from the Confectionery, yummmm. The last thing we did was go out on Main Street and got a group photo in front of the casting door. It was really fun and a great break from regular work.

On my days off I've been doing 2 things, I either run errands all day and go grocery shopping or I go to the parks for free. For the past 5 weeks I've been getting Thursdays and Fridays off so I usually use one day for errands and one for parks (but I only run errands every other week so some weeks I go to the parks both days haha) It's really fun and I love being able to go on my days off. Some things that stick out in my mind are going on Rockin Roller Coaster 3 times in a row with Rebecca (one of my roomies) by going through the single rider line, going to the animation building and learning how to draw Piglet, and meeting my friend Donald in Epcot <3 I also have my seasonal pass for Universal which I'm still trying to make use of haha. I can't find anyone to go with so I might just end up going by myself and having a good time!

So that's about it for work and days off. Occasionally I'll do something before or after work if I have time but usually I like to relax when I have the time. On the 4th of July I worked but not until 3 so I ended up going to the pool before work with Rebecca and having lunch afterwards before work which was really nice. Then one night I got out of work at 8 and it was my friend Kelley's birthday so I changed my clothes and met her and Edward (they both also work on Main Street East) and went on rides until 11:30 at night (sooo fun.) Then last night my cousin was in Orlando and after work I took the monorail and met her at the Grand Floridian for dinner and we got to see the fireworks from there too. It was really nice and I had a good time. I love taking the monorail from work and just riding around because I can! :)

I hope this kind of recapped my program so far. Please comment if you feel like I've left anything out or want to know more :) I'd love to take requests on ideas for blog posts so I can post more often. I promise I will!! Until next time <3 Have a magical day!Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407552280265707944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-27170098524493067172011-06-13T10:21:00.003-04:002011-06-13T10:50:20.451-04:00Haven't posted in a while...Sorry everyone who possibly might read this! I've gotten behind on my blog already! I've been in Disney for almost a week now so I'm going to give yall a recap on check in and my training.

First of all I don't think I mentioned here that my roommate situation changed a few days before I arrived. My original roommate KT ended up getting a job on the Disney cruise line for the Disney Dream and had to turn down her internship. I'm so excited for her even though we don't get to live together. She's going to have such an amazing time! So like 2 days before I got here I found a new roommate from facebook....ironically also named Katie! She's super nice and we get along great together and also with the other 2 girls in our apartment. Let me start from the beginning though....

I got to the check in line at the apartments at 7am and met up with one of the girls I had been talking to on facebook (Nicole) and we found my roommate Katie in line already. Nicole's roommate Rebecca (who we also talked to on facebook) wasn't there yet because she took a flight in that morning so she checked in later. We didn't wait very long since we were there early, they let us in around 8am and we went through a series of tables where we received papers, signed papers and got our apartment set up.

Then we got on the bus to casting (the door knobs in the front are from Alice in Wonderland!) where we got our work locations (I'm working on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom!! aka I get to watch fireworks and watch parades every night :D) and got more papers, signed/handed in more papers, got fingerprinted, set up direct deposit (or our Partners Visa....more about that later), got our training schedule, and finally took an awesome picture at the end.

Then we took the bus back to the apartments (at this point I was separated from my roomies but it was ok because everyone is super friendly and talks to each other since we're all in the same boat and don't really know anyone.) I went back to my apartment and unpacked and my aunt came with a tv for our living room and then we went out and ate lunch at the Golden Corral. I had a boring housing meeting from3pm-5pm and then I was done for the day. This is pretty much how your schedule will be if you get there around 7-8am, get your assigned apartment, go to casting, unpack your apartment/eat lunch, and then go to the housing meeting in the afternoon. The next day (June 7th) was a free day where my roomies and I went to Walmart and bought things for our apartment.

On Wednesday (June 8th) we had Traditions. Now everyone says Traditions is long and boring. Well it is long (about 4 hours) but I didn't think it was too boring, we watched a lot of videos about Disney World and being a cast member and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside lol. We also got to go to the Magic Kingdom and Mickey Mouse came to visit us in class :) At the end of the class they give you your official cast member name tags and you also get your Disney id in the beginning which gets you into the parks for free! That night there was a pool party at Vista Way that my roomies and I went to. It was ok, I'm not really into parties but there was free pizza which was worth going for in my opinion :)

The next day (June 9th) I immediately started training for work. This doesn't happen to everyone, some people have time off before they start. My roommates had Thursday off and then 2 had Friday off as well and didn't start until Saturday. I had orientation at Magic Kingdom on June 9th which started at 7:15am so I had to take the 6:05 bus. The busses (at least for people working in MK) are not that bad, I will definitely be using them instead of driving my car everyday and wasting gas. Plus it's nice because you meet people while riding. Anyways it sucked orientation was so early but it was really fun. We went in the underground tunnels under MK. The tunnels are like top secret, they don't let anyone take pictures of them because it would "ruin the magic." Sorry! :) We learned all about how the cast members keep the magic and fantasy alive in the Magic Kingdom while walking around the park. It was really interesting and made me love Disney even more. At first I wasn't excited about working in MK cause they can have really late hours (which CPs usually work since we're at the bottom of the totem pole) but now that I did orientation I'm so excited I get to work in the one park in Disney World that Walt actually planned out and designed himself! :) I got my costumes for work at the end and also got the rest of my training schedule. YAY!

A little off topic but Disney is soooo thorough with training which makes me so happy. Whoever is nervous about coming don't be!! I was really nervous to start because I was afraid I wouldn't know where to go or what to do or who to see but they do everything the first few days in groups so we're all going around together. Even this morning when I had to go to training by myself (no roomies this time) I found people going on the same bus to my orientation. They even told us they don't want everyone walking around like a deer in the headlights so they literally take you step by step from orientation to costuming to your specific work location and show you where each and every location you'll need to know is so you feel comfortable and know what you're doing. They even tell us which busses to take and what time to take them the first day! I think I have like 6 days of training which is awesome. I now understand why Disney is so famous and is on the Fortune 100 list of top companies to work for!! :)

But yeah I've basically been training all week. On June 10th (Friday) I had an orientation for my work area. We were basically just shown all around our area to become comfortable (no learning the register or anything!) We got our pins to trade that day and wore them around the park which was fun. Everyone wanted to see what we had. I had Merchantainment class on Saturday (June 11th) which was also long (all the shifts I got so far are 8.5 hours long but don't worry they go by fast and you get used to it!) but we practiced on the practice cash registers during class and learned more about working in Merch. Yesterday (June 12th) I actually got to work on the register for real and I loved it. We started off in the Confectionery (where they sell all the candy) and I got to work the register and also pull the cookies and fudge for the guests and wrap them up. I really loved working there and I think I'm going to have a great time. I also rotate to all the shops on Main Street East (the hat shop, 2 carts, the jewelry store, and the art of disney) so I also trained at one of the outside carts right by the front entrance. This was amazing because we got out there just as the parade was starting and it still felt as magical and incredible as it always had! :) I'm really excited for Wednesday because I get to do specialty training and learn how to make cotton candy and stitch names into people's mickey ear hats!! :D

Anyways, today I have the day off so I'm off to play in the parks! Disney is really great so far! We'll see what next week brings! Hope everyone has a magical day!Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407552280265707944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-65832401799807337172011-05-11T14:40:00.000-04:002011-05-11T14:40:15.955-04:00Role ChangeI had a realization yesterday that I'm not a good fit for the role of Lifeguard. I haven't been swimming regularly in 4 years and I wasn't going to be able to be ready for the swim test in 2 weeks (when I have to fax Disney the form saying I'm able to perform the required swim skills.) So I called Disney yesterday and asked if it was too late to change. She told me there were no guarantees but she'd put in a request and I'd get a call within in the next 48 hours.

So a recruiter (Stephany) called me this morning and was super nice and I explained to her that I'm not a very strong swimmer and I didn't think I'd be able to do the swim test for lifeguard because I haven't been swimming regularly in 4 years, she said she understood and offered me a position in Merchandise. I accepted so now I'm going to be working Merch!! I think I'm going to be so much happier with this role and I'm extremely excited about it! Hopefully I get a good location! Yayyy! :)

In some non-Disney news, I graduated from college last Saturday, it was such a liberating experience. I never thought I'd get there never mind get there with the degree I wanted (Music) and having done a violin recital!! So needless to say, I'm pretty proud of myself even if I'm not one of the smarty pants with a 3.9 gpa :p I also got a lot of graduation money so I've treated myself to a Kindle which is coming today! I can't wait to get it. Oh and my birthday is coming! (9 days!) Life is good right now! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-50480986728845260582011-04-20T17:23:00.002-04:002011-04-20T17:25:56.998-04:00Change of Plans!Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been posting on here, school has been super busy with my recital and now the end of the semester, finals, and graduation. I don't have a lot of free time! I did want to update a little though. In my last post I revealed that KT and I will be staying at the All Star Music for 2 nights before check in. This has now changed! My dad found a really good deal on the Buena Vista Suites (cheaper than Disney) which is a lot closer to Vista Way (5 minutes down the street) and includes breakfast. So I will be staying there for 1 night with my dad and brother (who are coming down on the Autotrain with me) and then staying the next night with KT before check in! The hotel looks really nice and I'm super excited I'll be able to split my time between my dad and brother and my new roomie KT :)

Also, our apartment is now complete! We've been planning on sharing an apartment with Nicole (who I've been talking to on facebook) but she needed her own roommate and we finally found one! :) Her name is Rebecca and she seems really nice. I think our apartment is going to work out really well, we all seem very compatible and easy going about things.

That's all the Disney news I can think of for now. 44 days until I leave for Florida! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-19646410650474020182011-03-19T11:37:00.003-04:002011-04-20T17:24:09.706-04:00Disney news!!Hey all, this is going to be a quick blog because I have to meet the other orchestra members at noon to get on a bus to Stamford, CT for a concert. I just wanted to update this because it has been a while and I've been busy with school and a violin recital coming up next weekend! :)

So the roommate matching opened up for Disney and now I'm officially going to be living with KT McKenna! :) We decided way back in November before we even applied to live together so I'm really happy it has worked out!! :) We also booked a hotel room at Disney's All Star Music Resort for 2 nights before check in at a super cheap price thanks to my friend Holly's Family/Friends Cast Member discount (40% woohoo!). I'm super excited this is all becoming real! I've been wanting to do the college program since before I was even in college so this is so amazing that it's actually happening! :) All I have to do now is book my ticket for the Autotrain from VA to FL!

That's all I have for now! Hope everyone has a magical day!
Two days ago I got my purple folder from Disney!! :) I totally didn't expect it and happened to wear purple that day so I kinda matched my folder! lol It was an awesome surprise and made me even more excited to go down to Florida! Here's some pics of me with my folder, I kind of had my own photoshoot! hehe
It came around 8am. I was really bummed about getting the role of Lifeguard and wished I hadn't checked it off because I've never been a lifeguard and the idea of having to save people scared me. But I've decided it will be fun once I get used to how to do things and it's probably actually a really good role. The hours are going to be very normal and I'll probably be home every night which makes me happy :) I do have to take a swim test when I get there. It consists of swimming 200 yards (8 laps), picking up a 10 lb brick from 8 ft deep water and bringing it to the surface, and treading water for 2 minutes without your hands. So I'm going to start swimming again (I was on the swim team for 3 years in high school) and practicing for the test! So that's about all the news I have for now.

I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!

See Ya Real Soon!!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-18774632877389996162011-01-25T18:58:00.001-05:002011-01-25T18:59:22.491-05:00Phone Interview!Ok I'm finally posting about what happened with my phone interview! Sorry it's late!

So my phone interview was schedule for Friday 1/21 at 9:45am. I was sitting in my room going over my notes, which I taped onto the wall so they wouldn't make noise, waiting for my interviewer to call. Here's a picture of my intense notes :)

Anyways I'm watching my cell phone turn from 9:45am to 9:48 to 9:50 and I start freaking out. My interviewer didn't call until 9:55 and apologized for being late. She asked if we could reschedule because she was having computer issues so I rescheduled for the next day, Saturday 1/22 at 10am. I was pretty bummed since everyone else got to do their interviews that day without any issues and I was so anxious to get it done with!

So I did it Saturday and I felt like it went really well! The interviewer was really nice she asked me Why I wanted to do the CP, about my past jobs, and then we went over the roles I wanted and why and what kind of experience I had. It was a pretty easy interview, no trick questions! :) The one different question I got from the ones I had prepared was "Tell me about a time where you had to multitask while using a computerized system (like a cash register)" which was easy to answer since I worked in a coffee shop as a cashier and had to get food and pastries and stock at the same time. Everything else were questions I had heard before and questions everyone else had probably heard before!

So now I'm just waiting to see what happens. She told me I'll be hearing back anywhere between 3-6 weeks but I'm hoping to hear back sooner since I applied on the first day and interviewed on the 3rd day! lol I really hope I get in! This has been my dream since I was 14!!!! Good luck everyone else applying, especially to my D-Fam!! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-90518157893214559662011-01-20T15:12:00.001-05:002011-01-20T15:20:01.872-05:00Passed the WBI!!!For anyone who doesn't know WBI=Web Based Interview. This is the portion of the application most people are nervous about where they ask you personality type questions. If you pass that portion you go onto the phone interview. So I applied yesterday and passed!!! :) I scheduled my phone interview for 9:45am tomorrow morning (Friday)!! I'm sooo excited and I'm basically spending the rest of today planning for it. I know I'll do fine as long as I don't get too nervous and let my love for Disney shine through!! :) I haven't heard of anyone from the Dfam on facebook not getting past the wbi so good luck everyone on your phone interviews!!!

I'll post again tomorrow to let everyone know how it went!

When I was in middle school I was notoriously late for the bus. I live at the top of a cul de sac and the bus wouldn't drive up it at the time and just stopped by the street so my mom would have to drive me down. When I was late my mom would speed me down. So the bus was pulling up as my mom was speeding down the road. We got close to the end of the road and she started slowing down so I decided to open my door and get ready to get out. Well....my mom kept rolling a little longer than normal and my foot hit the ground too soon. Fortunately I had my violin case that hit the ground and my mom wasn't going fast enough for me to fall but I had to yell at her to stop the car. The entire bus saw what happened and as I got on the bus my busdriver said, "You have to wait for the car to stop before you get out." -_- So yeah that's my embarrassing story! lol

Total Time: 21-22 minutesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-69807632862314331162010-12-30T13:34:00.002-05:002010-12-30T14:18:18.247-05:0010 random factsI was tagged by Kryssy so here's 10 randoms things you might not know about me!

1. I've been playing the violin for 12 years and am putting on my first recital (for school) at the end of March before I graduate from college.
2. I've never had a boyfriend. My first date (and only date so far) was to my senior prom with a guy I've known since 3rd grade. I've been asked out by people since, just not by anyone who interests me. I secretly hope my first real boyfriend will be my prince charming....I've waited long enough! :)
3. I have a shopping addiction....take me into a store and I will almost always find something to buy.
4. I'm really bad at making decisions, if you're ever with me when I have to decide between 2 things, brace yourself, I'll go back and forth for at least 5-10 minutes.
5. I was born a preemie at 1 pound, 11 oz. Eventually I went down to 1 pound 2 oz because of the lose of water weight. I was in the hospital for 3 months and my parents visited me every single day.
6. I have the entire series of I Love Lucy on DVD. Ever since I was little I've loved Lucille Ball and can't get enough of her. I also collect her other shows and specials on DVD as well as I Love Lucy barbie dolls. I've come to the conclusion that when I move into my own house I'm going to need to have a separate room just for my Lucy stuff lol.
7. I was extremely shy in school and didn't talk to anyone until 5th grade. Now that I look back on it I realize how stupid and weird it was but at the time I was just too afraid to talk to anyone. I think it's genetic because now my 10 year old sister is the exact same way and doesn't talk to anyone at school.
8. I love country music and I'm a member of the official Carrie Underwood fan club. It sounds dorky but I get amazing seats at her concerts. The best I've gotten so far is 6th row, dead center. Oh and I got free tickets to see her at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC for a Thanksgiving Day Parade taping she did for CBS.
9. I've been to Disney World 18 times. The last time I went was in May with 2 friends for my birthday. Lets just say it didn't go well and I'm never going on vacation with friends again...or at least ones I haven't spent a ton of time with. You don't know people until you've lived with them that's for sure!
10. I'm half Puerto Rican and half Italian. Holidays are awesome cause my grandma on my moms side brings the Spanish food and my grandma on my dads brings the Italian food, yummm.

I'm going to be tagging Amanda Quintal and Diana Kelly. Today I went through the binder I put together with my papers from the Disney at Uconn club I joined which went fabulously by the way!! I was kind of nervous about joining a club since the only activity I've done in college is orchestra (which is required of me as a music major) but I'm so glad I did join!

The first meeting was sharing Disney stories and they told us all about the college program and what roles there were. Then we had another meeting about the application process which was super helpful. The girls who run the club are going to Disney in January for Spring 2011 and they put together a really helpful powerpoint going over the questions they were asked during the phone interview (which they wrote down so they would remember them) and how we should prepare for them. I'll post the information from that in a separate post because I'm sure it might help anyone reading this as well.

There were a few meetings I didn't go to because they were doing things like voting for elections (which I would have loved to participate in but I'm a senior and didn't see the point in trying for a position when I wouldn't even be there for a year) or talking about how to get college credits through Uconn which didn't apply to me either since I'm graduating. What I did go to were the bonding nights we had. I missed one of them because I had to study for exams but I attended 2 of the other bonding nights as well as the Disney themed fundraiser we did!

The bonding nights were usually themed. The first one I went to was "Disney at Uconn's Not So Scary Halloween Party". We ended up coming in costumes (I was a cat, some people went with nondisney costumes and a lot went with disney costumes. tinkerbell, indiana jones, and minnie mouse were all there!), watching Halloweentown, tye dying tshirts (my first time!), and eating candy! :) It was so much fun and made me happy knowing I had found people at my school who also love Disney. The other bonding night I went to was "Disney at Uconn's Very Merry Christmas Party". At this meeting, we listened to Disney Christmas Music, made gingerbread men, and picked presents out of a grab bag. I got Disney fruit snacks lol.

The other event I also participated in was the "Disney at Uconn's Bibbidi Bobbidi Nail Boutique". I volunteered and showed up to paint nails. It was $5 for people to get their nails painted. I had a lot of fun and got to talk to the other group members more which was nice.

Anyways, next semester should be even better since a bunch of us will be applying for next Fall! We can (hopefully) celebrate our acceptances together! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-76495742697792061342010-09-22T08:41:00.003-04:002010-09-22T08:52:29.093-04:00Disney at UconnSorry I haven't posted in such a long time but I finally have Disney news to share!!! :)

I started my senior year at the University of Connecticut about a month ago (makes it that much closer to applying/being in Disney World!!!). Over the summer I found out there's actually a club here for people who want to do the Disney College Program or just have a love for all things Disney! The first info meeting was last Tuesday night and it was pretty magical!! haha There was a few kids there who either work at Disney seasonally or did the CP and we basically sat there for an hour listening to stories about the CP. It was the best meeting I've ever been to because I found people who love Disney as much as I do, who feel the magic every single time they go back and when they're not there miss it and want to go back. I loved hearing the stories about the CP and the interactions they had with guests, celebrities, and roommates. Not to mention they help you prepare for applying and your phone interview by doing mock interviews! We're also going to have bonding nights with Disney movies/Disney trivia/ect which I'm super excited about. Even though I live pretty far from Disney World, the meeting made me feel a little closer to the happiest place on earth :) It just confirmed that my decision to take a semester off next Fall before going to grad school is the right decision because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and who knows what doors will open for me! :)

Well I have to go get ready for class but I just wanted to share this awesome experience with you all! 120 days until applications (might) go up! Have a magical day!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-19440808377242950282010-08-20T18:26:00.004-04:002010-08-20T18:35:49.010-04:00Sorryyy!Hey anyone who reads this! Sorry I haven't posted in such a long time but I unfortunately haven't had any Disney news to share :( I'm kind of thinking about making my blog about Disney AND regular things that go on in my life but I'm not sure people would want to read about my life as a Music major lol. If you do, comment on this post and let me know and I'll start posting more. If not, I'll just continue with a strictly Disney blog!

Anyways, the WDW CP Applications for Spring 2011 went live a few days ago, so exciting for those applying! Next it will be my turn! I can't wait. I watched the epresentation yesterday for fun.....it was kind of corny and I don't think I'll be watching it again until I have to apply lol. It was heavily scripted and totally obvious because of the bad acting (sorry if anyone was in it? haha). But even though it had some corny moments it was really awesome to hear about peoples experiences in different roles.....and it further pulled me into wanting FSFB but I'm still not sure about it!

I am definitely going to be adding a role to my application which will be Main Entrance Operations. I figured it'd be an easy job even though there might be some late nights, I'm gonna have to expect that even if I don't want them haha. Plus potentially driving or spieling for the parking trams sounds too much fun to care about hours!

I think any of the roles I check off will be cool jobs I think its why I have a hard time picking a top 3 or 4 lol.

Anyways, that's about it for Disney related things, I hope everyones having a magical day/week and good luck to those applying for Spring 2011! I'm super jealous! lolAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-56585315605568670042010-07-06T11:55:00.003-04:002010-07-21T16:13:52.930-04:00Cast Member Role
So I’m still not sure what my top choice for a role in Disney World would be! I’ve narrowed my choices down to a few…..

Full Service Food and Beverage- This role is basically where you work in one of the sit down restaurants in Disney seating people, taking reservations, ect. I heard people like this one because you’re almost guaranteed to be in ac and the hours aren’t too crazy because the restaurants close earlier.

Attractions-This is where you operate and work the rides. I’m on the fence about this one because it would be really awesome if you got a good ride (Great Movie Ride,Rockin Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror!)(or show like AI) but the hours seem like they might be long and crazy depending on which park you’re in. But I heard you can request a park or ride, it’s not guaranteed but I think they try to make it possible. I'd probably request Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom.

Character Attendant-You follow the characters around, help with any guest issues, take pictures if there's not Photopass Photographer, ect. I’ve heard nothing but good opinions about this job.

PhotoPass Photographer- This role is self explanatory. You're a Photographer for the guests. I heard this one is kind of tiring because you have to carry heavy equipment around in the hot weather but I also heard people really enjoy it.

Lifeguard-I used to be on the swim team in high school but I’ve never been a lifeguard, I heard it doesn’t matter because they make you get certified down there. But I heard you have to make a certain amount of saves per day or you can get fired which sounded stressfull to me at first but I heard they’re easy things…like telling people to swim away from the slide after they go down lol. It’d be a nice job, I’d just hate to go down there to get certified and fail :/ If you fail they give you another job but it’d probably be something I didn't want. They tell you the requirements online though so I’m sure if I practiced over the summer I’d be good :)

Transportation-In this role you have the opportunity to help with boats, buses,or monorails&possibly drive them. This one seems cool depending on what you’re assigned to do. I heard someone absolutely loved driving the boats and driving the monorails everyone always loves. I heard the hours are usually at night though which I'm not really a fan of. I also don’t have any experience with that kind of stuff but apparently nobody does so it doesn’t really matter :)

Vacation Planner-I actually like planning vacations so I think this one might be fun. I think you get to sit in ac cause you sit in the ticket booths in the parks. I guess they have quotas to fill but I heard they get rewards and perks for meeting their goals. I wish I knew what kind of rewards and perks? lol

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Hostess-In this role you're basically a hair/makeup stylist for little girls and turn them into their favorite princess! :) This one would be really fun for me because I love working with kids and have a lot of experience with them. I heard you need salon experience but then I heard a lot of people say they didn’t and just had a lot of experience with children. I think this job would be awesome but I heard the hours are long.

So I’m not really sure what kind of order to put these in! lol I guess it’s good I have like 6 months to decide :) Comment and let me know your opinions to help me decide! (I'll probably check off all of them on my application but they usually ask in your interview which would be your first choice)

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-16685544364379728352010-07-06T11:54:00.002-04:002010-12-31T23:45:16.068-05:00What is the Disney College Program?
I’m sitting in my US History summer class right now…..after the midterm I decided the notes I was taking during class were useless so I don’t take notes anymore :p At this point, going into my senior year of college, I’ve mastered the art of bsing haha.
Anyways, I’ve decided to make a post for people who might be reading my blog but don’t know what the Disney College Program is *gasp* I know, shocking.
The Disney College Program is a paid internship for students to work (and play) in Disney for a semester or more, making connections for future work opportunities. There are special classes (they’re optional) you can take at Disney University which teach you about different aspects of the company. I’ve always wanted to do the program but never had the opportunity because I needed to take classes for my major each semester (which aren’t offered over the summer) and couldn’t lose a semester or it would delay my graduation. However, if you apply the semester before you graduation, they allow you to participate in the program, you just have to be a student when you apply. So this is what I’m going to be doing and hopefully I’ll be in Florida for Fall 2011 after I graduate from Uconn! :)
This is how the process works, to the best of my knowledge, since I haven’t actually applied yet. Basically you fill out an online application where you choose your top job choices. My top choices so far are Full Service Food&Beverage (basically being a hostess/seater), Character Attendant (walking around w the characters, controling lines, taking pics for guests, ect), and Attractions (working at one of the rides). I also might check off PhotoPass Photographer. I know I won’t be checking off Housekeeping,Custodial, or Quick Service Food&Beverage because I’ve heard that if you check them off they WILL give you one of them since they’re jobs that nobody really wants lol. I’ve decided I’d rather be down there and have a job I enjoy than be there and be miserable. Anyways, after that they call and you do a phone interview, they ask you pretty easy questions about yourself and how you would handle different situations while working (such as what you would tell a child if they were too short to ride a ride). Then the waiting begins. It takes a few weeks to hear from them about if you’re accepted or not, but hopefully when the times comes and you check your mailbox you’ll find a purple folder and probably an email telling you you’re accepted and your role!
The best part of the College Program is that on your days off you get to play in the parks for free and get 3 free tickets for family/friends! You also get discounts on food, souveniers, and hotel reservations for family (I heard up to 50% off! Polynesian here I come! lol)
Oh and if you’re wondering where you live while in the program, Disney provides apartments. There are 3 different apartment complexes and your rent is taken out of your paycheck each week so you don’t need to worry about it. The apartments are Vista Way, Patterson Court, and Chatham Square. Patterson is supposed to be the nicest because it’s newly renovated. Vista is supposed to be old and where the partiers live. I guess Chatham is kind of the in between, it’s newer than Vista but not as new as Patterson. So I’m hoping to get Patterson or Chatham but I won’t know where I’ll be living until I get there :)
Yeah so that’s basically it, wish me luck! ;) I hope I get in! lol
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077727544674871040.post-86827725121027906802010-07-06T11:52:00.000-04:002010-07-06T12:19:50.506-04:00Welcome to my Blog!
Note: I started this on tumblr but decided I didn't like it there because people can't comment on your posts. So the next few posts are imported from my tumblr.

Welcome!

Alright guys n gals, this is my new blog! yayyyy *cue applause*

I’ll be writing here every now and then to yall know what I’m up to, how school is going, what I’m planning, how life is going in general. I’ve never used tumblr before so I’ll probably be playing around with all the features& figuring things out.

Right now I’m home for the summer, taking 2 summer classes (not at the same time) and starting work regularly in July at the bus company (my fav, love it there). I’m going to be starting my senior year at Uconn in the Fall and applying to grad school and the Disney College Program after Christmas. Cross your fingers I get into that, it’s been my dream to work with Disney since middle school :) When I start applying and everything my blog will probably primarily be about Disney but for now it’s about life and my anticipation for the program lol.

So that’s it for now, I’m being called for dinner….blueberry pancakes yummm.

Have a magical evening! ;)

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0
